I know so many people who often refrain from ordering food that they do not know how to pronounce. Tzatsiki is one of them. Though, lucky for many of them, it’s not one of those things you order at a restaurant. It’s mostly served as an accompaniment to many of our Mediterranean favourites like Gyros, Falafels or most certainly a Mezze platter. Tzatziki (also spelled “Tsatsiki”) is a Greek meze (appetizer) and is always served cold. It’s made from yogurt –usually sheep’s milk or goat’s milk yogurt -, grated cucumber, minced garlic and olive oil.
TBH, this is one of the easiest things to make at home. I know I say this a lot, but it’s so true. A lot of us are simply intimidated by the thought of cooking something you’d normally eat at your favourite restaurant, convincing ourselves that what you eat at a restaurant is almost impossible to cook at home.
Well, that ends right here because I’m going to introduce you to the easiest dips to make – of all time. The tzatziki. Pronounced “zat-zee-key”, this dip is a total summer delight.
Tzatsiki:
Serves 4| Prep time: 5 min | Cook time: 2 min
Ingredients:
Yoghurt – 2 cups, strained and whipped
Cucumber – 1, grated
Garlic – 4-6 cloves
Dill – 1 tbsp, chopped
Extra Virgin Olive OIl – to drizzle
Lemon Juice- 1 tsp
Salt and pepper – to taste
Steps:
Literally , just mix everything together. That’s it! Put it in the fridge a couple of hours before you serve it.
Cool and delicious, this tzatziki is what summer dreams are made of. It’s a great accompaniment to your crisps, crudites, pita or grilled meats.
